Non-Toxic Cleaner Recipes

| First, here's a
list of cleaners/ingredients that you should NEVER use around
your bird: |
- Alcohol
- Ammonia
- Bleach (unless very diluted)
- Butyl cellosolve
- Chlorine
- Dye
- Ethanol
- Formaldehyde
- Glycols
- Hydrochloric acid
|
- Hydrofluoric acid
- Lye
- Naphthalene
- PDCBs (paradichlorobenzenes)
- Phenol
- Phosphoric acid
- Propellants
- Sulfuric acid
- TCE (trichloroethylene)

These are the items that you will
use to make your cleaner recipes from
and are generally considered safe around your bird, but not in
direct contact with him or her: |
- Containers - squirt bottles,
spray bottles, squeeze bottles and other plastic containers
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Funnels
- Labels and laminating sheets
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Liquid soap - Castile,
vegetable-oil based or glycerin, found in most health food
stores

- Liquid detergent - Clear
dishwashing liquid like Palmolive
- Essential oils - found in
health food stores or online such as peppermint, Tea Tree
oil, lemon
- Borax
- Olive oil
- Club soda
- Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds -
found in health food stores or online
- Purified water

Be Sure To: |
|
- Remember to always label
your cleaners properly.
- Don't reuse commercial
cleaner containers.
- Never, ever mix commercial
products.
- Never, ever mix commercial
products with homemade products.
- Don't substitute ammonia.
|
- Don't use perishables for
substitute ingredients.
- It's best not to try out
your own mixes.
- Keep liquid soap and
detergent, vinegar and borax out of eyes!
- Please don't eat or drink
any of your cleaners.
