When newspapers are printed not
all of the roll of paper is used. A new roll is fed into the
printing press before the current roll is depleted. This allows
the presses to run non-stop and leaves rolls with a relatively
(relative to the original size of the roll) small amount of
paper on them. Obtain the leftover paper roll from a local newspaper company. The paper can be used to line cages and the floor under your bird. Once all the paper is used from a roll you can turn the roll into toys. |

First, cut each roll into short sections. You may use an electric skill saw, but a hand saw will work just as well. |

Then cut short sections of 2" x
4" lumber.
WARNING! Never use pressure treated lumber. It is toxic! |

Start with a longer section of tube with a hole drilled in its side. Take a length of rope and tie a knot in one end. Thread the rope up and through the hole in the tube so that the knot is inside the tube and hanging at the end of the rope. Alternate threading wood and paper roll sections onto the rope ending with a 2" x 4" piece at the top. Tie a knot in the rope just above the last 2" x "4 piece of wood leaving enough rope to hang the toy. |
