Foster Parrots, Ltd.
The Birds

Over the years of taking in, adopting out and rescuing parrots, Foster Parrots has seen nearly one thousand individuals, each with their own story and character. Although all have been valuable to us, some have had an impact that has helped shape how Foster Parrots, Ltd. has grown to become the organization it is today.

As parrots with unbearably terrible past experiences have come to us, our resolve to provide the best quality of life possible for a captive parrot has deepened. As the creatures with no particular faults arrive because they have become an inconvenience or a much bigger responsibility than ever imagined, our commitment to finding dedicated caregivers has increased. As the incorrigibles charge in with no other fault than demanding to be a PARROT, we have come to a new understanding that the place for these wild creatures is in the treetops and clear air of the rainforests, and the need is for us to work to preserve those tender places.

We are encouraged that even breeders are coming to realize that foisting cute bappies on an uninformed public is just plain wrong and we have widened our efforts to educate and inform potential bird guardians of the lifetime responsibility, expense and work of sharing the life of a parrot, a task that has been likened to caring for a 2-year old human for the rest of YOUR life. For more understanding of what living with a parrot is really like, check out A Parrot's Bill of Rights and Ten Commandments of Parrot Ownership; one is humorous and one is deadly serious.

These pages will introduce you to a very few of the characters who have had an impact on us. Some are special in their own right, some are with us because there is simply no other place where they can live outside the sanctuary we provide. All are waiting for humans with BIG hearts and good intentions to come and adopt them. They all have a place in our hearts and are welcome to stay with us until that day comes.
